A ripoff? I don't think so. Unless you lie or you just don't have a clue what you want. In that case, those kinds of sites are not for you.
There are phone chat lines for this purpose in the US and Canada, and probably in other countries as well, that are a lot more expensive because you get charged by the minute.
At least online you can exchange pictures and see what the other looks like before you meet. I'm sure there's still some bullshit to cut through, but you're much more likely to find exactly what you're looking for if you fill out a profile that is accurate and honest.
There's no doubt in my mind that there are hookers and women who'd want to get paid to have sex with men on these sites. It's up to you to ask the right questions and make sure the woman (or man) is compatible with what you're looking for before you go any further.
